Vatananugulkit in Third Place at Edean Ihlanfeldt

SAMMAMISH, Wash. - Junior Beverly Vatananugulkit collected eight birdies through the first two rounds on Tuesday, is 3 under overall, and is in third place at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational at Sahalee Country Club while helping No. 36 UC Davis into a sixth-place tie.

Vatananugulkit fired a 2-under 70 in the first round before coming back with five birdies and a 71 in the afternoon. Her 141 score after 36 holes is just four shots off the pace being set by Mariko Tumangan of Stanford who is 7 under.

The Aggies shot a 9-over 297 in the second round after opening the day with a 300, and are tied with Cal at 24-over par. The Golden Bears were one of three teams to not complete the afternoon round because of darkness. The nine players in that group will complete the round on Wednesday prior to starting the third round.

Sophomore Betty Chen had a 73 in the second round and is tied for 22nd at 6-over 150. Sophomore Andrea Wong had rounds of 77 and 78 and is tied for 40th at 11 over, freshman Paige Lee carded 79 and 77 and is tied for 44th at 12 over, and senior Jessica Chulya shot 82 and 76 for a 14-over 158. She's tied for 50th.

Vatananugulkit enjoyed a solid opening round, picking up birdies on the par-5 sixth hole and par-3 ninth to make the turn two shots below par. She had a birdie and a bogey on her back nine to finish with a 70. Three birdies on her first seven holes of the afternoon helped push her to 2 under in that round before she played the remainder of her day just 1 over.



Chen had 14 consecutive pars covering the last half of her first round and the first half of her second, and highlighting her second-round 73 with 15 total pars, a birdie and just two bogeys. She had 77 in the morning.

Wong had three birdies overall on Tuesday and covered the middle 18 holes of her day just 3 over. Lee was just 1 over on her front nine in the afternoon and carded four birdies on Tuesday. Chulya improved her first-round score by six shots in the second, picking up birdies on the second, fifth and sixth holes. She played the front nine of her second round even.

Eleventh-ranked Stanford is 7 under and has a commanding 21-shot lead atop the standings over No. 1 Washington (+14) and No. 28 Oregon (+14). The 13-team tournament features seven teams ranked in the top 36.

UC Davis will begin the final round at 9:05 a.m. on Wednesday.
