STANFORD, Calif. - Betty Chen posted four birdies and Beverly Vatananugulkit had three as both players fired even-par 71s on Saturday at the Stanford Intercollegiate as the No. 38 UC Davis women's golf team moved into 11th after two rounds.

The Aggies fired an 8-over 292 on Saturday, a shot better than their Friday score, and are 17-over 585. UC Davis trails No. 21 Kentucky and No. 11 Vanderbilt, who are tied for ninth a shot in front of the Aggies.

Second-ranked USC is 20 under after firing a 12-under 272 in the second round and leads top-ranked UCLA by eight shots. Washington, ranked 19th is 18 shots off the pace and the only other team in the highly competitive field that is under par.

Starting on the 10th hole, Chen found herself 3 over after just four holes but then posted back-to-back birdies on the 16th and 17th holes to help make her turn just 2 over. She played an impressive front nine a pair of shots under par with birdies on two par-5 holes. Chen is even for the tournament.

Vatananugulkit, who is 1 under overall, was 2 under over her first nine holes with birdies on the same holes that Chen mastered. She added another on the par-4 third hole.

Chulya had an eight-shot improvement over her first-round score, playing her front nine two shots over par and then picking up a pair of birdies the rest of the way to help cover her back nine even. She's 12 over for the tournament.

Lee had a birdie on the par-5 seventh hole to help highlight her day. She's 8 over after two rounds. Wong birdied her last hole - the par-4 ninth - and is 15 over after 36 holes.

First-day leader Sophia Popov of USC had a 67 on Saturday, is 9 under, and has a three-shot lead.
