RICHMOND, Calif. - The UC Davis women's golf team won a fall tournament for the third season in its three-year existence as a varsity program after the Aggies fired a tournament-best team score of 300 on Tuesday to claim the USF/Richmond Country Club Invitational by a stroke over Texas Tech.

Bryana Gregory, Chelsea Stelzmiller and Eryn Williams each tied for eighth at 13-over 226 while freshman Alice Kim tied for 15th three shots behind her teammates. Sydney Roughton tied for 44th at 246 while Kelsey Fischer - playing as an individual - tied for 24th at 20-over.

The tournament was played at the 5,955-yard Richmond Country Club.

The championship was the first in four events for the Aggies during the 2007 fall season but culminated a rise which saw them finish 15th in their first event, fifth in their second, and third in their most recent tournament - the Price's Give 'em Five Intercollegiate at New Mexico State in October.

It was also another tournament title for the growing UC Davis program which won three tournaments including the Division I Independent Championship during its first year in 2005-06, and a tournament at Cal Poly last fall.

UC Davis captured this week's tournament after finishing Monday's first 36 holes in a tie for second with UNLV. The Aggies, though, posted a 12-over 300 on Tuesday - the best team score of the nine-team event - to break away from the Rebels and overtake Texas Tech.

Texas Tech was second at 908 while UNLV took third at 911. Oregon shot 303 to place fourth, seven shots behind the Rebels, while the host Dons took fifth at 922.

Gregory and Stelzmiller paced UC Davis in the final round, each shooting impressive 73's, while Kim had a 75, Williams posted a 79 and Roughton carded an 81. Fischer concluded her tournament with a 79.

Therese Kolbaeck of UNLV took medalist honors after her 2-under 69 gave her a four-shot win over Cathryn Bristow of Oregon at 2-over 215.

UC Davis will return to competition for the spring portion of its 2007-08 season when it travels to the Baja Classic in Mexico in early February.
