A total of 20 UC Davis student-athletes representing 12 different sports were selected as 2013-14 Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports Scholars, it was announced by Diverse magazine in April. The Sports Scholar Award recognizes undergraduate minority student-athletes who achieve academically, athletically and in the campus and community.
The women's golf, women's track & field and softball teams each had three honorees. Senior Jessica Chulya, junior Blair Lewis and sophomore Andrea Wong represented women's golf. Junior Cekarri Nixon, sophomore Christine Hoffman and redshirt freshman Kaz Shidara hail from the track team (Hoffman and Shidara also run cross country in the fall). Senior Kimberly Pena and sophomores Christa Castello and Christina Guidry play for the Aggie softball team.
Seniors Liliana Alvarez and Megan Leung form a two-person delegation from the UC Davis women's swimming & diving team. Senior Melissa Kobayakawa and sophomore Tiffany Pham represent women's tennis on the honor roll while sophomores Cassandra Quebral and Jamie Yamashita come from women's gymnastics. The men's track and cross country teams also tabled a pair of honorees in sophomores Amar Dholakia and Cody Nguyen.
Alvarez, Brown, Chuyla, Granger, Leung and Quebral are repeat winners of the award.
