DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis freshman Rei Nakatani captured 2016-17 All-American Scholar honors from the Women’s Golf Coaches Association, as announced on Wednesday. The psychology major from Tokyo, Japan, was one of 952 women’s collegiate golfers who achieved the minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or better.A 2016 graduate of Florida’s Montverde Academy and an alumna of Bishops Gate Golf Academy, Nakatani played in all 10 regular-season tournaments for the Aggies in her rookie season. She averaged 77.85 per round, culminating her freshman year with a season-best 25th place at the Big West Conference championship. This is the second academic award to go to a UC Davis women’s golfer this spring. Senior Paige Lee was named to the Big West All-Academic squad last week (Nakatani was not eligible for that award as a freshman).
