Tough Tourney Awaits Aggies In Hawaii

KAHUKU, Hawaii - Coming off a fourth-place finish at last week's Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, the the 27th-ranked UC Davis women's golf team heads over the Pacific Ocean to the inaugural Turtle Bay Resort Collegiate Invitational beginning Monday at Turtle Bay Resort.

It'll be a busy day at the locale which will also host an 11-team men's tournament. The 54-hole women's event will begin on Monday morning and continue with 18 holes on both Tuesday and Wednesday. Teams will play at the 6,361-yard George Fazio Course on the first two days before switching to the Arnold Palmer Course - which measures 6,261 yards - for the final round.

UC Davis, whose five-player team will be comprised of Alice Kim, Chelsea Stelzmiller, Kimberly Johnson, Demis Runas and Amy Simanton, begins action at 9:20 a.m. (Pacific). Junior Katie Sisler will participate as an individual and will begin play at 11:20. Runas and Johnson led UC Davis at Las Vegas last week, each of them tying for 17th at 8-over par 224. Kim also finished well, tying for 22nd one shot back of her teammates.

This week's tournament features 18 teams, eight of them ranked in the top 50 by Golfweek including No. 1 UCLA, No. 8 USC and No. 10 Cal. Also highly ranked are No. 28 Tulsa, No. 31 New Mexico, No. 35 Washington, No. 37 San Jose State and No. 49. Oregon.

 

 

The tournament will conclude the fall season for the Aggies who will take a break from competition until resuming in February.
