Coach Manara enters his eighth year at UC Davis after a diverse career as a coach, athlete, proprietor and state-rated judge. He works primarily with uneven bars, but is involved in all aspects of the program, including recruiting. Manara is a respected clinician who brings a wealth of knowledge and experience.
In both 2006 and 2007, Manara was selected as a co-recipient of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Assistant Coach of the Year award.
In 2001, his first year as bars coach, the Aggies scored three of its all-time top 10 scores and captured two USAG All-America awards in that event. In 2004, his squad recorded a 48.725 at Sacramento State, the highest bars score in almost five years. Additionally, Amber Weddell tied the school record of 9.925 and Nicole Doherty captured a USAG title under Manara's tutelage. In his first five years with the squad, five Aggies have captured USAG All-America honors on uneven bars.
The majority of Manara's coaching career took place around his alma mater of UC Irvine, from which he graduated with a degree in humanties. He was the owner of the Irvine School of Gymnastics for 23 years before beginning his collegiate coaching career at Cal State Fullerton. Manara was assistant coach of the Titans women's team and head coach of the Titans Juniors youth program from 1997 until 1999.
