2012 NCAA Seattle Regional Update
2012: MPSF GYMNAST OF THE YEAR... ALL-MPSF on all four events plus all-around... MPSF CHAMPION on vault (9.800) and bars (9.725)... Led conference in RQS on vault (9.810), bars (9.80) and all-around (38.925), while ranking 4th on beam (9.705) and 3rd on floor (9.785)... Earned MPSF Gymnast of the Week six times, the last of which came after setting school all-around record of 39.225 at Sacramento State... Also tied her own vault mark of 9.900 and scored season-best 9.825 on floor in that meet... Broke Flora Bare's previous record of 39.200, set in 2003... Scored 39-plus on three other occasions: 39.125 in home meets on 1/27 and 2/10, plus 39.050 at Seattle Pacific... Remains only Aggie to break 39-point barrier more than once... Competed as all-arounder in all 12 meets for maximum 48 routines... Hit 11 of 12 for year on vault and bars, 10 of 12 on floor... Scored 9.800 or better on bars four times, peaking at 9.850 in road dual at SPU... Opened season with career-high 9.800 on beam at Arizona State.
2011: MPSF CHAMPION on vault, tying Jill Henrie's school record of 9.900 at conference meet... Sidelined by injury for more than a month... Appeared as an all-arounder at Cal State Fullerton, scoring 37.875... Returned to action on March 4, posting season-high 9.750 on bars... Followed that with 9.850 on vault, 9.725 on beam at Sacramento State... Earned All-Academic honors from both MPSF and NACGC/W.
2010: ALL-MPSF on vault (9.760), beam (9.710), floor (9.760) and all-around (38.505)... NCAA REGIONAL QUALIFIER in all-around, ranking 14th in West (38.615)... Only second UC Davis freshman gymnast to qualify for regionals, after Tanya Ho... Won MPSF Gymnast of the Week four times (1/12, 2/9, 3/16, 3/23)... Claimed one of team's four Outstanding Contributions awards... Became fifth Aggie and first freshman to crack 39-point barrier in all-around, scoring 39.100 in home triangular with Cal and Texas Woman's... Followed with 39.075 vs. Stanford... Only gymnast in school history to score 39-plus more than once... Scored 9.825 or better on vault on four occasions, including 9.850 in Cal/TWU meet and at West Regional (t8th)... Scored 9.825-plus four times on floor, all in the final six meets... Posted season-best 9.850 in Cal/TWU meet then delivered consecutive 9.825s vs. Stanford and at conference (T3rd)... Scored season-best bars of 9.700 in home dual vs. Seattle Pacific... Twice scored 9.775 on beam: at Air Force and at home vs. Stanford... Earned NACGC/W Academic award.
HIGH SCHOOL/CLUB: Graduated from Henry M. Gunn HS in 2009... Competed for Airborne Gymnastics (Santa Clara, Calif.) for 10 years, including Level 10 from 2007-09... Qualified for Region I meet all three years at Level 10, finishing 6th in all-around in 2009... Advanced to Jr. Olympics national meet as a senior, placing 18th overall.
PERSONAL: Born in Torrance, Calif.... Majoring in neurobiology, physiology & behavior... Parents are Masao & Hiroko Yamamura... Older sister, Asami, graduated from UC Davis in 2009... Proudest personal accomplishment was qualifying for J.O. nationals.
