DAVIS, Calif. - Junior Tiana Montell won two events, including a career-high 9.750 on floor exercise, to boost UC Davis to a 191.275-188.275 win over Alaska Anchorage in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women's gymnastics dual at the Pavilion Monday evening.
The Aggies improve their dual record to 2-3. The Seawolves slip to 0-2.
Montell also won on balance beam with a 9.725 after opening the meet with a 9.725 on vault. Senior Anna Shumaker won on vault with a 9.775 to help UC Davis to a 48.325 in the first rotation, then tied teammate Yonni Michovska for the meet title on bars at 9.625.
However, the Aggies counted two falls on uneven bars to slip to a 47.025 in the second rotation, and turned in two misses down the stretch on beam to score a 47.775. Montell's personal record on floor led a 48.150 score in the last rotation.
Redshirt freshman Katy Nogaki delivered a 9.750 on vault, sophomore Stephanie Stamates went 9.700 on beam, and senior Madeline Kennedy hit 9.675 and 9.625 on beam and floor, respectively, to highlight the UC Davis boxscore. Shumaker scored a 38.050 to win the all-around.
The Aggies return to action on Saturday at Washington in a quad meet with Arizona State and San Jose State. The event will provide the team with its first look at Alaska Airlines Arena, the site of the 2014 West Regional.
