LOS ANGELES, Calif. --- Flora Bare scored 38.925 in the individual all-around to lead UC Davis to a team total of 189.675 in the four-team Bruin Classic women's collegiate gymnastics meet at Pauley Pavilion Sunday. The host Bruins won the meet at 198.275, well ahead of UC Berkeley's second-place score of 192.950. Cal St. Fullerton finished third with a 191.525.

Bare's mark ranks fourth all-time in Aggie history and is by far the highest all-around score by a UC Davis gymnast in a season-opening meet. She anchored the beam lineup by matching her career-high of 9.800 on that apparatus. Bare also posted a 9.675 on vault, 9.650 on bars and 9.800 on floor exercise.

Tiffany Chan scored a team-best 9.825 on floor to finish sixth in that event. She and Bare helped lift UC Davis' team floor score to 48.450, second in the meet. Chan is the reigning USAG champion on floor exercise and was the top-ranked performer as a freshman in 2002.

Other highlights included sophomore Nicole Doherty, who appeared in just seven meets on beam in 2002, scored 9.475 on bars, 9.675 on beam and 9.650 on floor to set career highs on each. Senior Lynn Schwaebe tied Bare as the Aggies' highest finisher on vault, scoring an eighth-place 9.675.

UCLA swept the top three places in all four events plus the all-around. Onnie Willis, who shared the 2001 NCAA title in the all-around, won the meet at 39.800 to edge teammate Jamie Dantzscher's 39.775 effort. She also won on vault at 9.950. Dantzscher, a former Olympian and last year's national champion on vault, floor and all-around, recorded perfect 10s on both uneven bars and floor in Sunday's action. Kate Richardson, another of the Bruins' six Olympians, put up a 10.0 on beam to win that event.

UC Davis' next competition is the Rocky Mountain Invitational at Air Force on January 25.
