TEMPE, Ariz. - UC Davis shared individual event wins on vault, uneven bars and floor exercise en route to a season-high 194.000, edging host Arizona State in a collegiate women's gymnastics meet at Wells Fargo Arena Saturday afternoon. Juniors Miranda Holder and Alexis Brown tied for first place on vault, senior co-captain Yonni Michovska shared the meet win on bars and sophomore Yasmine Yektaparast was the co-champ on floor.
Brown was also the meet's lone all-arounder, finishing with a four-event total of 38.425.
The Aggies, now 4-4 in dual competition, did not count a fall, scoring in the mid-48s in all four events to edge the host Gym Devils' 193.225 total. The UC Davis bars squad opened the meet with a 48.525, then vault went 48.650 in the second rotation, crafting a 97.175-96.425 at the meet's midpoint. The Aggie floor team hit a 48.525, with beam closing the meet with a 48.350.
Michovska scored a 9.800 in the No. 5 slot of the bars rotation to lead her team. Senior Rachel Kreager added a 9.700 in the event, while Holder, Brown and senior Jordan Helgesen each provided 9.675 scores. Holder and Brown then bookended the second rotation with identical 9.775 marks on vault, while sophomore Kara Jones chipped in a 9.725.
Jones followed that with a 9.750 on floor exercise, good for a tie for third place in the meet. Yektaparast anchored the Aggie lineup with a her 9.775, matching ASU's Mekayla Jones for the meet medal. Brown finished her day with a 9.775 on beam, good for second place in the meet. Kreager, Yektaparast and senior co-captain Katy Nogaki each added 9.650 marks in that fourth rotation.
Saturday's meet, which also featured an ASU men's dual with No. 3 Illinois, marked UC Davis gymnastics' third visit to Wells Fargo Arena since the program began Division I competition in 1993. The Aggies met the Gym Devils for a season-opening dual in 2012, almost 12 years after making their first Tempe trip for the 2000 USAG Collegiate Nationals.
The Aggies return to action for a home dual with Sacramento State on January 29. The annual Alumnae Day meet will feature a 40th-anniversary reunion of both men's and women's gymnasts from both sides of the Causeway rivalry.
