DAVIS, Calif. - Junior Katie Yamamura posted two event wins plus the all-around title while sophomore Madeline Kennedy notched three career-high marks, helping UC Davis improve to a 191.450 in a women's collegiate gymnastics dual meet with Air Force at the Pavilion Sunday afternoon. The Falcons finished second with a 185.750.
The Aggies pick up their first dual win, moving to 1-4 for the season.
Yamamura won the vault with a 9.825 and tied Air Force's Linnaea Hance at 9.725 for the uneven bars title. She finished with an all-around total of 38.425, edging freshman teammate Kayla DeFrancesco, who compiled a career-high 38.400.
Kennedy scored a 9.725 on vault to tie her personal best, stuck a 9.575 on balance beam and a 9.750 on floor for two additional career highs. Kennedy finished second on both vault and floor, helping the Aggies claim top-four sweeps in each event.
Junior Taryn West contributed a strong two-event meet for the third straight week. She opened with a 9.600 on vault, then closed her day with a career-high 9.800 on floor. West's previous high was a 9.775 in a home dual with Seattle Pacific in March of 2011.
Sunday's meet marked the second all-around effort for the freshman DeFrancesco, she went 9.600 on vault, 9.450 on bars, then finished with 9.650 and 9.700 efforts on beam and floor, respectively. Another freshman, Tiana Montell, also had a solid overall meet: she scored a 9.700 on vault, 9.500 on bars, 9.575 on beam in exhibition and 9.525 on floor for a "virtual" all-around of 38.300.
UC Davis enjoyed a 48.550 on vault in the first rotation and a 48.500 on floor in the final round to advance to its season-high score. Both are season-best team marks.
Hance was the lone event-winner for Air Force, who lost senior captain Samantha Rogers to an injury during warm-ups. She scored a 9.775 on beam, well ahead of second-place DeFrancesco's 9.650.
UC Davis returns to action on Friday in a home triangular with California and Seattle Pacific. Meet time is 7 p.m. at the Pavilion. Tickets are available through the UC Davis Ticket Office or by visiting Tickets.com.
