DENVER, Colo. - Freshman Michelle Kulovitz tied for seventh place in the individual vault with a 9.750, helping the Aggies score a 48.175 in that event in a four-team women's collegiate gymnastics meet at Denver University Saturday. The host Pioneers won the meet with a 195.275 total, well ahead of second-place N.C. State at 190.575 and third-place Boise State, which scored 187.850. The Aggies finished fourth with a 187.475 total.
UC Davis moves to 1-4 for the season.
Also contributing to the vault output were sophomores Joanne Pizzo and Julia Richards. Pizzo recorded a 9.700 in the event, good for a tie for 10th place. Richards added a 9.650 score. Junior Hanna Anderson scored a 9.625 and redshirt freshman Carrie Lujan put up a 9.450 score to round out the UC Davis scorers on vault.
Besides Kulovitz, junior Arianne Furman was the highest finisher for the Aggies, placing seventh with a 9.600 in the uneven bars. Nicole Doherty took eighth in that event at 9.575. UC Davis posted a 47.650 on bars to open the event, but managed just 44.375 on the balance beam. Lujan was the only Aggie to break the nine-point barrier on beam, turning a 9.350 performance. She scored a 37.500 in her collegiate all-around debut.
