USAFA, Colo. - Junior Alexis Brown won the individual all-around with a career-best score of 39.350, leading UC Davis to a first-place total of 194.625 in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women's gymnastics triangular meet at Cadet Gym Saturday night. Host Air Force finished a close second at 194.500, while Seattle Pacific came up in third at 190.425.
The Aggies post their fourth straight meet win, improving to 8-4 in head-to-head competition.
Brown won three events in the meet and tied for second in another. She shared the individual vault title with SPU's Ariana Harger at 9.825, tied teammate Rachel Kreager on bars at 9.825, tied her career high of 9.875 on beam, then finished just behind Air Force's Casey Bell with a 9.825 on floor.
Brown's four-event total is tied for second in school history with Kala DeFrancesco's 39.350 at the March 3, 2015 home meet with Washington. Only Dani Judal, who scored 39.450 in that UW dual, ranks higher all-time. Brown's score is also the best road all-around total in Aggie annals, surpassing the 39.300 set by Judal at Cal on March 8, 2015.
As a team, UC Davis only counted one miss in the meet, slipping to a 48.225 on floor. Brown's score anchored the vault lineup to a 48.625, immediately after senior co-captain Katy Nogaki hit a 9.750 in the fifth spot. The bars squad compiled a 48.950 total, tied for seventh in school history. Brown and Kreager led a first-through-fourth sweep in the event standings, along with freshman Sarah Liddle (9.800) and senior co-captain Yonni Michovska (9.775).
Brown's 9.875 paced a 48.825 on beam and led five Aggies at 9.700 or better. Sophomore Kara Jones scored a 9.775, Kreager led off the event at 9.750, sophomore Yasmine Yektaparast went 9.725 and sophomore Aya Suzuki scored a 9.700 to aid the team's third straight beam total of 48.800 or better.
UC Davis counted one miss on floor but Brown and Jones each scored 9.825 marks with Amanda Presswood's 9.800 placing fifth overall.
Brown's all-around score bested Air Force's Kara Witgen, who totaled 39.125. Casey Bell, also of Air Force, edged Brown, Jones and Witgen for the floor title at 9.850.
UC Davis returns to action for the first of three straight home meets, including home duals against Alaska Anchorage on February 17 and 19.
