DAVIS, Calif. - Senior Carrie Lujan won the individual all-around at 38.225 to lead UC Davis to a winning team score of 192.300 in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women's gymnastics dual meet at the Pavilion Friday. Visiting Air Force finished second in the meet with a season-best 185.575.
Lujan's score also tied with teammate Michelle Kulovitz for first place on vault at 9.800, as the Aggie vaulters scored a 48.775 to open the meet. UC Davis has now hit five of its seven all-time highest vault scores in the 2007 season. Lujan and Kulovitz led a first-through-fifth sweep in the event.
The Aggies improve to 5-3 on the season, posting their third straight dual win.
UC Davis had the top two spots in all four events. Seniors Brandi Forte and Carolyn Kampf scored 9.675 and 9.625 on uneven bars, respectively. Senior Mari Inouye and junior Andi Dolinsky went 9.700 and 9.675 to claim first and second place on balance beam, then shared first place on floor exercise with 9.775 marks.
Lujan scored a half-point higher than her nearest competitor in the all-around, as Air Force's Michelle Denise compiled a 37.725 total and Falcon teammate Abbey Rogers was close behind at 37.650.
The Aggies never trailed in the meet, holding a 95.575 to 93.175 edge at the midway point, then scoring 48.000 on balance beam to Air Force's 47.650 on floor exercise in the third rotation. UC Davis then counted five scores of 9.700 or better on floor to total a 48.725 on floor exercise. The team total of 192.300 is the Aggies' second-highest score this season, behind only the 192.725 set a week prior against Cal State Fullerton.
UC Davis returns to action on February 23 at San Jose State, facing two former MPSF foes. The Aggies compete in a triangular meet with the host Spartans and Causeway Classic rival Sacramento State that evening.
