DAVIS, Calif. - Senior Yonni Michovska, sophomore Kara Jones and junior Alexis Brown hit historic career bests on their respective events, while the uneven bars and floor exercise squads also posted all-time top 10 scores, helping UC Davis amass a season-best 195.100 in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation home dual meet with Alaska Anchorage Sunday afternoon. Visiting Alaska Anchorage also hit a 2017 high, scoring 192.700 overall.
Sunday's meet stands as the sixth straight meet win for the Aggies, who improve to 10-4 in dual competition.
Michovska scored a 9.900 on uneven bars, tying the No. 6 score in school history. Jones' 9.875 on balance beam puts her in a 12-way tie for fifth in the program record book. Then Brown, who also won the vault with a 9.850 and the all-around at 38.975, finished the meet with her 9.925 on floor exercise. That places her into an eight-way tie for No. 4 on UC Davis' all-time top 10 for that apparatus.
As a team, the Aggies scored 49.150 on uneven bars in the second rotation, good for second in program history behind only the school-record 49.225 set against Seattle Pacific back on February 28, 2014. The floor squad compiled a 49.350 mark in the fourth and final rotation, pushing UC Davis past the 195-point barrier and tying the school's all-time No. 5 effort.
The team floor score also ranks T7th in MPSF history while the bars total is now tied for eighth. Brown's floor performance puts her T11th in conference annals, while Michovska now checks in at T15th in the MPSF record book.
The visiting Seawolves also got in on the historic performances. Junior Kendra Daniels won the balance beam at 9.900, setting a school record and putting her name in a 15-way tie for second in the conference record book. Incidentally, the 14th member of the MPSF's 9.900 beam club was Brown, who hit that score in Friday's home dual with UAA.
Brown's vault score led a UC Davis sweep of the top five places in the event standing. Jones finished second at 9.750 while Michovska, senior Katy Nogaki and junior Miranda Holder shared third place with matching 9.725 scores. The Aggies went 48.775 on vault as a team.
In the second rotation, Michovska led a bars lineup that was so strong that Holder's season-best 9.750 did not figure into the team score. Aya Suzuki (9.825) and Sarah Liddle (9.850) each set career highs in the No. 2 and 3 slots, respectively, then senior Rachel Kreager followed with a 9.775. Brown followed with a 9.800, ensuring a 49-point team score, then Michovska anchored the event with her 9.900. Liddle and Suzuki also finished second and third in the final event standings.
Jones' 9.875, Kreager's leadoff 9.775, and Susanna Iakounitcheva's exhibition of 9.800 provided the highlights of a relatively disappointing beam for UC Davis, which counted a fall and a few wobbles to slip to 47.825. The Aggies had a 145.750 cumulative score heading into the final rotation, meaning the floor squad would need to hit one of its all-time top 10 marks to push the overall team total above the elusive 195-point threshold.
Michovska opened floor with a career-best 9.800. Holder followed with a 9.825, then Jones tied her PR with a 9.850. Junior Amanda Presswood matched her own personal best with her fourth career 9.850. Yasmine Yektaparast, who last year became from the second Aggie freshman to score a 9.900 on floor, hit exactly that career benchmark in the No. 5 spot. Finally, Brown delivered her 9.925 as the final official routine of the day.
