SEATTLE, Wash. - Junior Katie Yamamura won two events plus the all-around while Leah Housman picked up her third straight beam title, leading UC Davis to a winning 192.900 in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation dual meet at the Royal Brougham Pavilion Friday night. Host Seattle Pacific finished second at 191.350.
The Aggies pick up their first win since January 22, improving to 3-9 for the year. The score is the team's highest road total of the year by almost two full points.
Yamamura opened with a career-high 9.850 on uneven bars then added a 9.775 on vault to pick up her first two meet titles of the night. She then tied for third on both balance beam and floor exercise with marks of 9.675 and 9.750, respectively, finishing with a 39.050 all-around total. Friday's meet marks the third time Yamamura has eclipsed the 39-point barrier this season, and the fifth such mark of her career. No other UC Davis gymnast has ever hit that standard more than once.
Housman scored a 9.800 on beam to edge SPU's Stephanie Wagner for the event title. Yamamura's 9.775 and Taryn West's 9.725 led UC Davis in the third rotation, but Falcon senior Sherah Veron ended up surpassing the field with her 9.850 score.
Other high Aggie finishes came from junior Anna Shumaker who tied for third on vault at 9.700 and took part in the three-way tie for third on beam at 9.675. Junior Michelle Ho placed third on bars with a 9.775 effort.
As a team, UC Davis scored 48.300 on both vault and bars, plus a 48.475 on floor exercise. The Aggies only counted one fall for the night, compiling a 47.825 on beam during the final rotation.
UC Davis returns home for a four-team meet with Arizona, San Jose State and Alaska Anchorage on Friday, Mar. 2.
