Senior Lynn Schwaebe set or tied personal bests on
vault and floor exercise to post a career-high 38.550 in the all-around
as UC Davis went on to a 190.575 team score in a women's collegiate gymnastics
dual meet at Recreation Hall Sunday. Visiting San Jose State won the meet
at 194.575, helped by a school-record 49.150 on floor in the third rotation.
Jennifer Greene won the individual all-around with a 39.125 while Spartan
teammate Dani Albright matched Schwaebe's score for a share of second place.
Greene also won on balance beam with a 9.900, edging Aggie Michelle Naito,
who matched her lifetime best of 9.875; and captured first place on floor
with a 9.925, beating out Albright's second-place score of 9.900.
UC Davis put up a 48.125 on balance beam in the third rotation, getting
strong marks from Arianne Furman (9.550), Schwaebe (9.750) and Nicole Doherty
(9.775) before Naito's 9.875 lifted the team to a 142.000 total after three
events.
The Aggie floor squad responded with a 48.575 with five Aggies setting
or tying personal-best marks. Mei-Ling Clark opened with a career-high 9.475,
followed by 9.750 marks by Jenna Mayfield and Doherty at the No. 2 and No.
3 positions, respectively. Schwaebe matched her career high of 9.825, despite
not having competed on floor since March of 2002. Naito contributed a 9.725
in the No. 5 slot, securing a 190 overall score.
Schwaebe also posted a career-high 9.775 to finish second on vault, just
behind Albright's 9.800 mark. Tiffany Chan added a 9.550 on vault, making
her first meet performance since February 9.
The Spartans swept the top four places on bars, with Shirla Choy (9.825)
and Kelsey Spellacy (9.800) holding the top two positions. SJSU scored a
48.375 on bars to open the meet, then put up 48.350 on vault to surmount
an early lead in the team scoring.
The Aggies had not scored higher than 190 since the 190.025 effort in
the last meet between UC Davis and SJSU almost a full month ago. A rash
of injuries had held the team's outputs in the 187 to 188 range in the last
three meets.
Sunday's meet is the first of three home events for UC Davis. The Aggies
host Alaska Anchorage on March 7, then UC Berkeley on March 14.
