SEATTLE, Wash. - Freshman Lida Gehlen won the individual uneven parallel bars with a career-high 9.825 as UC Davis posted a second-place total of 192.825 at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Women's Gymnastics Championships Friday evening at Seattle Pacific's Royal Brougham Pavilion. The host Falcons defended their title, upsetting the top-seeded Aggies with a winning score of 193.050. Alaska Anchorage finished third at 187.850 while Air Force placed fourth with a 185.575 total.
Gehlen had the lone event win for the Aggies. Her previous best was a 9.800 one week earlier in a home meet with Sacramento State, San Jose State and Cal.
The Aggies opened the meet with a 48.200 on vault, the team's 12th score of 48-plus in as many meets this season. Freshman Tanya Ho scored a 9.825 in the anchor position to place second in the meet. Junior Carrie Lujan hit 9.775 to tie for third place. Seattle Pacific started with a 48.225 uneven bars to take a slight lead.
Gehlen's winning score then helped the bars squad compile a 48.225 in the second rotation. Senior Brandi Forte added a 9.750 to place third in the event. At the same time, the Falcons struggled to three misses on balance beam, scoring just 47.350. UC Davis held a 96.425 to 95.575 lead over SPU at the midway point of the meet.
In the third rotation, the Aggies received 9.725 marks from Ho and junior Michelle Kulovitz on balance beam but counted one fall en route to a 47.575 on the apparatus. Meanwhile, the Falcons hit a 48.850 on floor as seniors Debra Huss and Sarah Sullivan recorded scores of 9.900 and 9.875, respectively. SPU took a 144.425-144.000 lead over its rival after three events.
UC Davis enjoyed a season-best 48.825 in the fourth and final rotation of the meet, buoyed by career-high scores by Kulovitz (9.825) and senior Mari Inouye (9.850). Junior Andi Dolinsky hit a second-place 9.875 in the sixth slot of the lineup, good for a tie for second place in the meet. However, the Falcons stormed to a 48.625 on vault to finish the meet, with event champ Kristin Bryant finishing the order with a 9.825 score.

Huss won the individual all-around at 38.550, nipping teammate Sullivan by just .075. Each also picked up an event win as Huss claimed the floor exercise and Sullivan took the beam title. UAA senior Rachael Lehmkuhl was third with a 38.100 total.
Friday's championships represented the final career meet for four UC Davis seniors: Forte, Inouye, Julia Richards and Carolyn Kampf.
