BERKELEY, Calif. - Junior Andi Dolinsky scored 9.700 on floor exercise, then freshman Tanya Ho matched that score on vault to represent UC Davis as individual qualifiers at the 2007 NCAA West Regional at California's Haas Pavilion Saturday.
Utah edged Nebraska for the team title, scoring a 197.325 to the Cornhuskers' 196.675. Both teams will advance to the national meet in Salt Lake City later this month. Missouri was third at 194.300, the host Golden Bears were fourth with a 193.900 and Washington was close behind for a fifth-place 193.300. Sacramento State struggled on beam in the fifth rotation, managing a 191.725 team total.
Ho and Dolinsky are the first Aggie gymnasts to compete at a region meet since Tiffany Chan placed 11th on vault in 2004. It also marks the first time since 2003 that UC Davis sent multiple qualifiers. Chan and teammate Michelle Naito both advanced to the meet at UW that season.
Dolinsky's score, performed in the fifth rotation of the meet, putting her in a sizable tie for 20th place out of 42 competitors in the event. Among the gymnasts who matched her floor total was Dolinsky's own Mountain Pacific Sports Federation rival, Debra Huss of Seattle Pacific.
"It was one of my better-landing routines, so I was really happy with it," said Dolinsky. "It was a lot of fun competing here. I didn't think I'd qualify so it was a big surprise to me. It even took me a whle after I got here to realize that this was really regionals."
"It feels really good to come back after tons of injuries last year. At the start of the season, I was worried that my body wouldn't hold up. But I did well, and it was all worth it."
Ho's 9.700 placed her in a tie for 27th with Cal's Alison Szutu and Missouri's Nikki Bowman. Her routine, a Yurchenko layout full, had helped UC Davis set seven of the eight all-time vault scores in school history.

"It wasn't my best vault. I over-reached the hurdle and touched some of the yellow. I still got a decent score, though," said Ho. "Making regionals was a goal at the beginning of the season, either for all-around or vault. I definitely want to come back."
Utah's Ashley Postell was the big individual winner of the meet. She helped the Utes sweep the top three places in the individual all-around with a 39.675 total, and won both bars and beam at 9.950 each.
