Jan. 16, 2018

DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis senior all-arounder Alexis Brown captured Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnast of the Week honors for the first time in 2018 and the fifth time in her career, the league office announced on Tuesday. The animal science major from Huntington Beach won the award three times in 2017 and once as a sophomore.

Brown, an alumna of Team OC Gymnastics, compiled totals of 39.200 and 39.050 in two road meets during the previous week. Her 9.850 marks on uneven bars and balance beam led the way toward the third-place 39.200 at the NorCal Classic on Monday. Brown then won event titles on bars (9.800) and floor exercise (9.900) en route to a winning 39.050 in an MPSF road dual at Seattle Pacific on Friday.

The two meets represent the ninth and 10th time Brown has broken the 39-point barrier in the all-around, tying a program record first set by Katie Yamamura. She has also scored 9.80 or better in an event 65 times in her career, another UC Davis benchmark.

Brown is the reigning MPSF Gymnast of the Year and the 2016-17 Hubert Heitman Award. UC Davis returns to action on January 26 in its home opener
