DAVIS, Calif. - On the strength of a winning 38.925 all-around score at Seattle Pacific on Friday, UC Davis senior Katie Yamamura captured Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnast of the Week honors for the first time this year, and the 11th time in her career.
The Palo Alto native and reigning MPSF Gymnast of the Year posted meet wins on both vault and the all-around in the dual against the Falcons, helping UC Davis score a team total of 194.300. She went 9.800 on vault while matching that score to place second on uneven bars. The Aggies' winning score ranks sixth in school history and third all-time for a road meet.
Yamamura won the conference's weekly award six times as a junior in 2012, eventually claiming All-MPSF distinction in all four events plus the all-around. She was also named Gymnast of the Week on four occasions as a freshman. Additionally, this is the fourth time the award has gone to an Aggie this season: senior Michelle Ho won it on January 8 and shared in on Jan. 15, then junior Anna Shumaker was a co-winner on February 5.
UC Davis returns to action for a dual meet at Sacramento State on Friday at 7 p.m.
