DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis freshman Stacey Nicolini was selected as the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnast of the Week for the period ending February 24, it was announced by the league office Tuesday. This is the fifth such award by an Aggie gymnast in 2008, including three consecutive.

A native of Novato, Calif. and an alumna of Rohnert Park Gymnastics, Nicolini tied for first place on vault in UC Davis' dual at San Jose State, scoring a 9.800. She also added marks of 9.500 on uneven bars and 9.675 on floor exercise to help the Aggies tally a season-best 192.300 in the meet. Additionally, Nicolini's score placed her atop the MPSF rankings on vault, bringing her regional-qualifying score (RQS) to 9.740.

Nicolini joins Tanya Ho (Jan. 14 and Feb. 18), Michelle Kulovitz (Feb. 11) and Lida Gehlen (Jan. 28) among the Aggies to capture a MPSF Gymnast of the Week award this season. Other potential candidates this week included Gehlen, who won the uneven bars at the SJSU dual; and Michelle Bobonski, who posted respective scores of 9.775, 9.625 and 9.725 on Friday night.
