DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis senior Katie Yamamura was selected as the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnast of the Week for the second time this season and 12th time in her career, it was announced by the conference office Tuesday evening.
The two-time NCAA regional qualifier broke her own school all-around record with a winning 39.325 total during Friday's home dual meet with San Jose State. Yamamura scored 9.775 on vault, a personal-best 9.900 on uneven bars, a 9.800 on balance beam and another career high of 9.850 on floor exercise. She is now just the fourth Aggie to hit 9.90 or better on bars. Furthermore, this is the eighth time she has hit 39 or better in the all-around; no other UC Davis gymnast has done it more than once.
Yamamura's performance helped the Aggies compile a 195.475, crushing their previous record of 194.700 from the 2008 MPSF Championships.
UC Davis returns to action in a road meet at San Jose State on Friday, joining up with Seattle Pacific and 23rd-ranked Boise State for a 7 p.m. meet at The Event Center.
