DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis freshmen Kelley Hebert and Kyla Kessler dominated the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation’s weekly gymnastics awards for the period ending March 4, the league office announced Tuesday. Hebert earned her fifth overall award, and her second Gymnast of the Week nod. Kessler captured her second Freshman of the Week plaudit, joining the one she earned back on February 6.Hebert set school and conference records with her winning 39.525 all-around score in Friday’s home dual meet with Air Force. She tied a UC Davis benchmark with a 9.950 on floor, tied for the meet wins on vault and uneven bars with 9.850 scores on each, and added a second-place 9.875 on beam. The human development major from Dublin, California, broke what stood as the longest-lasting MPSF record: the previous all-around mark was set by Air Force’s Jessa Liegl in 2004. Kessler finished second to Hebert in the all-around with a 39.200, making her just the fourth Aggie freshman to crack the 39-point plateau twice in a season. She posted 9.825 scores on each of vault, beam and floor exercise in Friday’s dual with the Falcons. As a team, UC Davis set an MPSF record of 49.250 on balance beam, and notched a 196.350 overall – third in school history and fourth in conference annals. The Aggies return to action for a pair of meets against Pac-12 foes this weekend. The team competes in a triangular at No. 9 Washington on Friday night, then returns home to host 20th-ranked California on Sunday at 2 p.m.
