DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis senior Anna Shumaker garnered Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnast of the Week honors for the second consecutive week and the third time in 2014, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
The Alameda High and Pacific West Gymnastics alumna broke the 39-point barrier for the fourth straight meet in Friday's triangular at Sacramento State. Shumaker scored 39.075 to edge Hornet Jesse Williams for the meet title, tied for second on beam with a 9.750 and on floor with a 9.825, and tied for third place on vault at 9.800.
Williams claimed MPSF Newcomer of the Week distinction while San Jose State senior Julia Greer picked up her fourth Specialist of the Week award. Other nominees in the Gymnast of the Week category were SJSU's Bekah Gher, Sac State's Kalliah McCartney and Seattle Pacific's Shannon Escarra.
Shumaker's overall effort helped UC Davis compile a 194.800, No. 8 in school history and No. 2 among Aggie road scores this season. The team is ranked 31st nationally with a 195.205 regional-qualifying score entering Saturday's dual meet at California.
