Nine Aggies make All-MPSF gymnastics teams

March 16, 2017

DAVIS, Calif. - Junior Alexis Brown captured first-team honors on all four events plus the all-around, leading a group of nine UC Davis student-athletes on the All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women's gymnastics squad.

Using the regional-qualifying score standings compiled on RoadtoNationals.com, the top-ranked gymnast from each of the six MPSF teams earns a spot on the All-MPSF rolls, as does the next six gymnasts at large. Of that 12 (plus any ties), the top six -- regardless of school -- earn first-team honors while the second team comprises the remaining honorees.

Brown leads the conference on both vault (9.825 RQS) and balance beam (9.840), ranks second in the all-around (39.050), sits third on uneven bars (9.805), and shares sixth on floor exercise (9.815). This raises her career total to 10 All-MPSF awards, adding to the three in 2016 and two in 2015.

Sophomore Kara Jones, senior Rachel Kreager and sophomore Yasmine Yektaparast also earned multiple All-MPSF awards for UC Davis. Jones made the second team on vault for the second straight year, while tying Brown for the No. 6 spot on the floor first team. Kreager claimed the last at-large spot on both bars and beam for her first career all-conference plaudits. Yektaparast, last year's MPSF Newcomer of the Year, repeated her first-team award on floor while adding a second-team nod on beam.

Senior Yonni Michovska finished the regular season atop the MPSF rankings on uneven bars (9.825), snaring a first-team honor to go with the second-team acclaim from 2016. Fellow team co-captain Katy Nogaki picked up her fourth consecutive All-MPSF first-team award on vault. Freshman Sarah Liddle scored her first career all-conference award, making the first team thanks to her 9.800 RQS.

Juniors Miranda Holder and Amanda Presswood each made the second team on floor exercise for a second straight year with matching 9.800 averages.

Brown was one of just three gymnasts from the six member institutions to win the maximum five all-conference nods, and the only one to appear on all five first-team rolls. San Jose State junior Kaitlin Won found her name on the first teams for bars, beam, floor and the all-around; plus the second team on vault. Sacramento State's Caitlin Soliwoda made the first team on vault, floor and the all-around; and the second teams for bars and beam.

UC Davis holds the top seed in Saturday's MPSF Championships, hosted by San Jose State on Saturday. The Gymnast of the Year, Newcomer of the Year and coaching awards will be announced at the conclusion of that meet.
