DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis senior Anna Shumaker captured Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnast of the Week honors for the third consecutive week and the fourth time in 2014, it was announced by the conference office Tuesday.
A co-captain from Alameda, Calif., the Aggie all-arounder totaled a 39.250 to place second in Saturday's road dual at California. She tied her career high of 9.85 on bars to open the meet, matched her season high of 9.825 on vault in the second rotation, then posted scores of 9.850 on floor and 9.725 on beam en route to her fifth straight 39-point meet. Shumaker helped the bars squad to a 49.025, fourth in school history; and a 194.950 overall, tied for seventh all-time.
Shumaker, who leads the MPSF with a conference-record 39.175 RQS, previously won Gymnast of the Week awards on Jan. 28, Mar. 4 and Mar. 11. She beat out San Jose State's Bekah Gher, Sacramento State's Kalliah McCartney and Air Force's Linnaea Hance for the honor. Air Force freshman Kara Witgen garnered Newcomer of the Week and SJSU senior Julia Greer took home the Specialist of the Week nod.
All six MPSF teams will convene at the UC Davis Pavilion on Saturday for the conference championship meet. March-in is scheduled for 6 p.m.
