DAVIS, Calif. - Four UC Davis gymnasts were selected to the 2007 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Academic All-Conference team, it was announced by executive director Al Beaird Tuesday. Alphabetically, the four Aggie honorees are Andi Dolinsky, Kayla Koch, Carolyn Kampf and Carrie Lujan.
Academic All-MPSF distinction is awarded to student-athletes of sophomore, junior or senior academic standing with a 3.0 or better cumulative grade-point average. Student-athletes also must have completed one full academic year at the member institution prior to the season for which the award is received, and must have competed in at least 50 percent of the team's competitions.
Dolinsky, who was named as MPSF Gymnast of the Year at the conference championships, had the team's highest GPA. The junior from Grand Terrace holds a 3.54 average as an English major. Dolinsky finished her 2007 season as one of two UC Davis qualifiers at Saturday's NCAA West Region meet in Berkeley.
Kampf, a senior psychology major from Los Angeles, earned her second Academic All-MPSF award. She was one of the Aggie leaders on floor exercise this year, posting a career-high 9.850 in a home dual win over Seattle Pacific on Mar. 9.
Lujan, a junior human development major from Salinas, emerged as an all-around contributor in 2007. She made her four-event debut at Seattle Pacific on January 19, scoring a 38.200. Lujan managed to surpass the 38-point barrier on three other occasions this season. She also ranked as one of the team's top vaulters and was an alternate in the event at last weekend's NCAA West Regional.
Koch, a redshirt freshman and human development major from Orange, Calif., overcame years of nagging injuries to find her way into seven meets this season. She hit a 9.700 on floor exercise in the Aggies' home win over Air Force on February 16.
MPSF champ Seattle Pacific claimed the most All-Academic honorees with seven. Alaska Anchorage had six, while the Air Force Academy matched UC Davis' total of four. SPU junior Christie Chinaka had the highest GPA of the 21 winners, holding a 3.79 average in elementary education.
The Aggies went 8-10 in dual action in 2007, finishing second at the conference championships.
