Five Gymnasts Earn MPSF All-Academic

DAVIS, Calif. - Five UC Davis gymnasts captured Academic All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation honors, it was announced by the conference office on Thursday. Alphabetically, the Aggie recipients are senior Madeline Kennedy, redshirt freshman Katy Nogaki, senior Anna Shumaker, junior Lisa Wiktorski and sophomore Jamie Yamashita.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must hold a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher, have at least sophomore academic standing, have completed one full academic year at the institution prior to the season, and have competed in a minimum of 50 percent of the team's competitions during that year.

This is the third such award for Kennedy, whose 3.48 grade-point average in exercise biology leads the five Aggie winners.Shumaker and Wiktorski each picked up their second while Nogaki and Yamashita garnered their first.

A total of 41 gymnasts from the six member schools captured All-Academic nods. Sacramento State led the conference with 12 honorees while San Jose State and Seattle Pacific each have eight.

UC Davis ranked 34th in the nation in regional-qualifying score, earning the program's first team berth into NCAA postseason competition since 1998. The Aggies, which set or tied school records in all four events plus total score during the year, placed fifth at the Fayetteville Regional earlier in April.
