DAVIS, Calif. - Six UC Davis student-athletes plus the collective team captured National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women Academic Awards, the organization announced Thursday. Alphabetically, the Aggie honorees comprise Roxanna Agah, Jordan Helgesen, Rachel Kreager, Katy Nogaki, Aya Suzuki and Jamie Yamashita.
UC Davis posted a combined grade-point average of 3.34 to finish among 74 team award winners. To capture NACGC/W distinction, a gymnast must have a year-long or cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
This is the second such award for each of Helgesen, Kreager and Nogaki. Agah, Suzuki and Yamashita are first-time honorees. Agah, a freshman from San Jose, held the highest GPA among the six Aggies with a 3.83 in her major of neurobiology, physiology and behavior.
UC Davis finished 42nd nationally with a regional-qualifying score of 195.045 in 2016. The team also placed second at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation and sent three individual qualifiers to the NCAA Salt Lake City Regional last April.
