DAVIS, Calif. - Alexis Brown of Team OC Gymnastics and Miranda Holder of San Mateo Gymnastics each signed National Letters of Intent to compete at UC Davis, head coach John Lavallee announced during the November 2013 signing period. Both are veterans of at least two Junior Olympics national meets. They are both high school seniors who are expected to enroll at UC Davis in the fall of 2014.
Brown joined Team OC in 2010 after one season of Level 10 competition at the Seattle-area Gymnastics East. She won the all-around at the Region II championships and placed 12th at the J.O. Nationals in her first season at Level 10, then placed third in the all-around at the J.O. National Invitational during her rookie year in Orange County. Brown followed that with another J.O. berth last spring, placing fourth on floor at the national meet as an encore to runner-up finishes on floor and all-around at regionals.
Though a senior at Analy High School in Sebastopol, Holder competes some 75 miles away from home at the same Bay Area-based San Mateo GC that produced current Aggie freshmen Rachel Kreager and Yonni Michovska. She first competed at Level 10 in 2012, placing fourth on vault, floor and all-around at the Region I Championship; then participated as an indendent entrant at the J.O. National meet that May. Holder switched to San Mateo last spring, capturing the floor title and repeating her fourth-placing showing at regionals to earn a return trip to the J.O. stage.
"Both of these athletes competed at the Junior Olympics last year and did a very good job," said Lavallee. "Alexis finished fourth at nationals, which is the highest for any UC Davis recruit. Miranda had an amazing season last year coming off a midseason injury [in 2012] to qualify for the J.O. Nationals. Both athletes are very powerful gymnasts and they bring a big dynamic to the team on every event, but certainly on vault and floor. I'm really looking forward to both of them."
UC Davis enters its eighth season under Lavallee's tutelage, following a season in which the Aggies won their fourth straight Mountain Pacific Sports Federation title and compiled a school-record regional-qualifying score of 194.780. The gymnastics team kicks off its season at the NorCal Quad meet in Sacramento on January 5, 2014.
