BOULDER, Colo. -
Sophomore midfielder Taylor Cuenin scored two goals while fellow second-year Shannon Cross added a goal and two assists in UC Davis’ 18-5 loss to 13th-ranked Colorado during Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women’s lacrosse action at Kittredge Field Sunday.
The Aggies slip to 1-3 for the year and 0-2 in MPSF play. The Buffaloes stay undefeated at 4-0 overall and open conference action at 1-0.
Senior attacker Melissa Kellan
and junior midfielder Kate Fellner
also scored goals to round out the UC Davis offense. Cuenin added three caused turnovers and four ground balls, the latter matching teammates Anna Belenis
and Lauren Ali
for the game high.
For Colorado, junior Carly Cox and senior Johnna Fusco each netted four goals to lead seven total scorers. Attacker Darby Kiernan notched three goals, two assists and a game-high 11 draw controls.
Despite an early 3-0 deficit, UC Davis fought back to stay within a 5-3 margin at the halftime break. Kellan put the Aggies on the board with her Cross-assisted goal in the 17th minute, Fellner scored in the 23rd, then Cuenin converted Cross’ second assist with 1:28 left in the half.
However, CU scored 10 unanswered in the first 16 minutes of the second half to run away with the game. Freshman Amanda Outcalt
assisted Cross for a goal in the 49th minute to end the Buffs’ surge, and Cuenin later scored her second goal in the 52nd.
Overall, Colorado outshot its guest by a 44-12 advantage and won 20 of the game’s 25 draws.
UC Davis returns to action on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. game against Presbyterian, starting a four-game homestand through March 16.
