ORINDA, Calif. - Junior Tiffany Lee and freshman Alannah Taylor each performed hat tricks as UC Davis rode out an early 5-0 lead to claim a 10-5 win over Saint Mary's College in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women's lacrosse game at Miramonte High School Tuesday.
The Aggies even their overall and MPSF record to 1-1. The Gaels fall to 0-2 for the season. After freshman Katie McGovern first put UC Davis on the board with a free-position goal in the third minute, Lee scored back-to-back goals and Taylor converted her first score to put the Aggies out to a 4-0 start during the first 10 minute of play. Ten minutes later, Lee completed her hat trick to extend the margin to 5-0.
McGovern finished with two goals on the day, while defenders Jackie Milhoan and Jen Sanderson each added one. Lee and freshman Kaitlin Moore each had one assist for UC Davis. Goalkeepers Kristen Braasch and Hilary Harkins split time in the Aggie cage. Braasch had five saves against the two goals in the first half, then Harkins tallied three saves against the Gaels' three goals after the break. Coincidentally, Harkins is a 2004 graduate of Miramonte, which served as the game site after Saint Mary's field conditions proved prohibitive.
Rosy Iaccino led SMC with two goals while Jessica Tsou finished with a pair of assists for the Gaels.
UC Davis continues MPSF play in a road game against first-year member Oregon on March 6.
