EUGENE, Ore. -
Sophomore Katie McMahon scored four goals and freshman Katie McGovern added three to lead UC Davis to an 11-9 win over Oregon in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women's lacrosse game at Papé Field Sunday. The Aggies scored seven unanswered goals in a span of 19 minutes to take a lead they would not relinquish.
UC Davis is now 2-1, both overall and in MPSF play. The Ducks drop to 0-4 overall and 0-3 in conference.
The Aggies wasted no time in reaching the scoreboard first, as McMahon scored on an unassisted drive just 1:01 into the game. However, the Ducks answered with a goal by freshman Erin Gaebe, then added scores by Jana Bradley and Theresa Waldron to take a 3-1 lead after 6:40 of play.
McGovern scored her first goal at the midway point of the first half to ignite a run of six straight Aggie goals before the halftime break. The freshman attacker had two goals in that stretch, as did McMahon and junior attacker Tiffany Lee.
UC Davis sophomore Megan O'Connor added another goal in the fourth minute of the second half to send her team to an 8-3 margin. Oregon managed to cut that lead to three goals on two different occasions, then back-to-back unassisted scores from Kate Fleming reduced the deficit to 10-8 with less than 10 minutes to play.
McMahon converted an assist from freshman Kaitlin Moore to seal the game in the 56th minute. Kristen Braasch posted 13 saves in net, becoming UC Davis' all-time career leader in saves. Her total of 353 eclipsed the previous mark of 350, set by Kate McCall from 1998 to 2000.
The Aggies return to action with a home game against UConn on March 9.
