DAVIS, Calif. - Junior attacker Anna Geissbuhler scored five goals with four assists while four other Aggies had hat tricks, helping UC Davis tie its school single-game scoring record in a 24-10 victory over Long Island during collegiate women's lacrosse action at Aggie Stadium Sunday afternoon.
The Aggies even their record at 3-3. The Blackbirds fall to 0-5.
Geissbuhler's five goals matches her career best, first set against Fresno State last season. Freshman Charlotte Morris added four goals and four assists, while Elizabeth Datino, Elizabeth Landry and Hannah Mirza each had three goals. Datino, who is tied for the national lead in total points, also tallied three assists to finish with six points.
Landry, a freshman midfielder, also posted 12 draw controls to set another UC Davis benchmark. She added four ground balls and three caused turnovers in the contest. Landry helped the Aggies win 25 of the 36 total draws in the game, setting yet another school record.
Both teams combined for 11 goals in the first 10 minutes of play. Datino scored the game's first goal then assisted Landry for another in the Aggies' 5-1 start during the first 4:36 of action. Caitlin Farrell and Ashley Delaney found the back of the net within 44 seconds of each other to pull LIU to within two, only to have Geissbuhler score back-to-back goals plus an assist to Morris in restoring the lead to 8-3.
Morris had two goals and an assist during a 6-0 run late in the first half, helping UC Davis craft a 17-7 edge at the break. The Aggies took 33 shots, won 17 draw controls and committed only four turnovers in the first half.
UC Davis largely went into slow-down mode after the intermission but still managed to pile on four unanswered in the first nine minutes of the second half. Allie Lehner's unassisted drive with 7:05 left made it 24-9, tying the program mark set against Colorado College back on April 25, 2004.
The Aggies shot .558 for the game and set season highs in both ground balls (28) and caused turnovers (14). For their part, the Blackbirds managed to connect on 10 of 13 total shots.
UC Davis returns to action for a home game against Central Connecticut on Monday, March 19. The university's final examinations begin the following day.
