DAVIS, Calif. - Freshman midfielder Taylor Cuenin scored a game-high four goals while junior Kelly Chuck and freshman Grace Richards each added hat tricks off the bench, helping UC Davis storm past Saint Mary's, 19-7, in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation opener at Aggie Stadium Sunday afternoon.

The Aggies improve to 3-2 for the year and begin conference play at 1-0. The Gaels remain winless at 0-5 overall and 0-1 in MPSF play.

Cuenin posts her third hat trick of her young career. Senior Sam Axenroth and freshman Shannon Cross tallied two goals each, while midfielder Shannon Geary won a game-high nine draw controls. Senior Ellie Delich added a goal, two assists, four draw controls and a team-best three caused turnovers. Senior midfielder Courtney Neff did not score but assisted on three goals

The Aggie reserves saw significant action in Sunday's win. Chuck and Richards each scored their first career goals. Sophomore Kate Fellner also earned her first goal and first assist for the year. Freshman Natalie Garces and sophomore Carolina Tweedy also made their season debuts.

UC Davis never trailed in the contest, scoring four unanswered in the first five minutes before AnnaMarie Carmazzi put SMC on the board in the ninth. The Aggies had two more 4-0 runs in the first half to craft a 13-4 lead at halftime. They held a 23-8 shooting edge and won 12 of the 18 draws in the first half.

After the break, SMC managed only four shots after the half but connected on three as UC Davis maintained a double-digit lead for nearly the remainder of the contest. Junior midfielder Meagan Bennett hit two of those goals, matching teammate Hanna Dalrymple for her team lead. Fellner and Chuck each had a goal and an assist during the second half.

Sunday's game marks the first time in nine years and 14 meets at the Aggies held the Gaels to fewer than 10 goals, despite a 13-1 series record in that span.

UC Davis breaks for the university's week-long final examinations and hosts its Alumnae Day on March 20 before returning to official action with a non-conference game against Drexel on March 26.
