DETROIT - Junior midfielder Elizabeth Landry tallied five goals while freshman Melissa Kellan and Carly Voris each added hat tricks, helping UC Davis forge a 13-2 win over Detroit in non-conference women's lacrosse action at Titan Field Thursday afternoon.
The Aggies snap a three-game losing skid in improving to 6-3. The Titans slip to 1-8 overall.
Landry, who also had an assist and a game-high six draw controls, led her team's overall 13-for-23 shooting. Kellan shot a perfect 3-for-3 for the day while Voris added three caused turnovers to her three-goal output. Sophomore Ellie Delich accounted for the remaining two UC Davis scores. Junior Meghan Jordan and sophomore Courtney Neff each tallied two assists. Defensively, Voris' three steals matched that of senior Rachael Mack and junior Allie Lehner for the team lead.
Detroit suffered offensively with just 2-for-14 on shots. Sophomore Kylie Birney and senior Erin Campbell netted one apiece.
UC Davis never trailed in the contest, scoring five unanswered during the first 21:35 to seize control of the game. Landry assisted Kellan in the fourth minute for the game's first goal, Voris added a second just two minutes later, then Landry hit the first of her five scores in the seventh for the initial burst.
Annie Mendoza assisted Campbell to put the Titans on the board with 5:22 remaining in the first half, then her ensuing draw control set up Birney's eight-meter goal to cut the Aggie lead to 5-2 just 29 seconds later. However, that froze the Detroit side of the scoreboard for the remainder of the game, as the hosts shot 0-for-10 the rest of the way.
UC Davis won seven of the eight draws in the second half, pulling away from a 6-2 halftime lead en route to the victory. Neff assisted Voris and Kellan on goals within the first two minutes after the break. Landry had four of her goals in the second frame.
The two goals allowed stands as the lowest since April 23, 2010, when UC Davis took down Fresno State by a 17-1 final.
The Aggies return to action at Michigan on Sunday. The opening draw against the rookie program takes place at 1 p.m. EDT, 10 a.m. Pacific.
