DAVIS, Calif. - Junior Elizabeth Landry scored five goals while junior Meghan Jordan matched that total in assists, leading UC Davis to a 15-8 win over Fresno State in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women's lacrosse action at Aggie Stadium Friday afternoon.
The Aggies snap a five-game losing skid to improve to 7-8 overall and 2-6 in MPSF play. The Bulldogs slip to 2-11 for the year and 1-7 in conference.
Jordan's five assists represents her highest single-game total since the season opener at George Mason on February 21. Landry's five goals is her most since hitting that total at Detroit on March 27. Four of Jordan's dimes went to senior Carly Voris, her scored her highest total since burying six against Robert Morris at home on March 12.
Sopomore Anjelica Fuccillo and senior Kara Concheck each scored hat tricks for Fresno State.
Landry and sophomore Mary Doyle each had five draw controls while Voris and sophomore Ellie Delich added four more apiece. Junior Kai Murphy and senior Jordan Majka split goalkeeping chores for UC Davis. Murphy tallied three saves in the first 32:28 of play before Majka relieved her for two saves and only one goal allowed for the final 27:32.
As a team, the Aggies dominated the draw at an 18-7 clip, finished a perfect 9-for-9 in clearing transitions, and outshot their guests by a 33-17 margin.
Landry hit a pair of eight-meter goals in UC Davis' 3-0 start during the first 2:36 of play. The Bulldogs responded with a 4-0 run during the next 10 minutes to claim a 4-3 lead, but the Aggies then answered with six straight in reclaiming the lead for good. Jordan scored the equalizer in the 14th minute and had three assists during the 6-0 run.
UC Davis held a 9-5 lead at halftime, surrendered goals by Kyliegh Westgarth and Concheck early in the second half, then hit six of seven the rest of the way in sealing the victory.
The Aggies committed just nine turnovers in the game, surpassing their previous season low of 10, set three days earlier in an MPSF loss at Stanford.
Jordan kicked her career assists total to 53, moving her into a tie for seventh with former teammate Anna Geissbuhler on UC Davis' all-time career leaderboard. Landry surpassed the century mark in career goals, finishing the game with 103. She needs two to surpass Megan O'Connor (2004-07) for eighth in program history.
Friday's contest was dedicated to the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation, a non-profit organization that seeks to improve the quality of life of children battling brain tumors. UC Davis women's gymnastics "adopted" a child earlier this season, and women's lacrosse has joined a wait list to do the same.
The Aggies finish their regular season against Saint Mary's on Friday, April 25. Game time is 7 p.m. at Aggie Stadium.
