Final Stats

DAVIS, Calif. - Sophomore Katie McMahon scored five goals while freshman Katie McGovern and sophomore Megan O'Connor each added three to lead UC Davis to a 17-5 win over Saint Mary's in a non-conference women's lacrosse game at Aggie Field Wednesday.

The Aggies, who match their season-high output of 17 goals, improve to 9-6 for the season. The Gaels drop to 1-14 overall.

O'Connor and freshman Kaitlin Moore each had two goals in an 8-3 first half. Moore also chipped in an assist to Megan Miller in the 20th minute of play. UC Davis did not surrender a goal until the 10:36 mark when Jen Utley scored the first of her three goals for the day.

Midway through the first half, O'Connor's second free-position goal ignited a 4-0 Aggie run across a span of five minutes, pushing the hosts ahead by an 8-2 margin. Then with 39 seconds remaining before the halftime break, Ally High set up Dearborn David for the second Saint Mary's goal.

After Utley converted her second goal in the opening seconds of the second half, Lindsay Messina collected the next draw and hit McGovern on an outlet for a goal at the 30:28 mark. That score kicked off a 5-0 UC Davis run that included two more goals by McMahon.

"We've been trying to work on that -- maintaining the intensity in the second half," said Aggie head coach Elaine Jones. "We did a good job finishing our shots. It was a very complete game, but we really have to step it up for Cal. We still need to ramp up our game, and we're definitely capable of doing it."

Utley completed her hat trick with 8:26 remaining in the game, but that was the last of the SMC offense. The Aggies finished with another 4-0 run. McMahon had two more goals and an assist during that final stretch.

The contest also represented the final home game for two Aggie seniors: defender Jackie Milhoan scored a goal at the 51:18 mark, and goalie Kristen Braasch collected three first-half saves, making her the first player in program history to hit 400 career saves.

UC Davis completes its Mountain Pacific Sports Federation schedule with a road game at UC Berkeley Saturday.
