BERKELEY, Calif. -
Laura Cavallo scored four goals with two assists to lead nine Golden Bear scorers as UC Berkeley employed a 16-2 run to aid in an 18-11 win over UC Davis in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women's lacrosse game at Memorial Stadium Saturday.
The Aggies, who finish the regular season with a 9-7 overall mark and a 2-3 conference record, will enter next weekend's MPSF Championships as the fourth seed. Cal moves to 11-6 and 4-1 in MPSF play, locking up the second seed in the tourney.
UC Davis took an early 3-2 lead, getting two goals from Katie McMahon and another from Megan Miller in the first 12 minutes of play. However, Brittany Aungier's free-position goal at the 12:12 mark launched a 10-2 Cal run to finish the half. The Golden Bears entered the break with a 12-5 advantage.
Cal added six unanswered goals to open the second half, including two goals and an assist by Cavallo. The Bears run then ended and UC Davis scored six straight goals to finish the contest.
McMahon led the Aggies with three goals while Tiffany Lee and Katie McGovern each added two. Freshman Hilary Harkins recorded strong second-half numbers, tallying 10 saves against the six goals in 30 minutes in the UC Davis cage.
Megan O'Connor finished with a goal and two assists to go with four draw controls and four ground balls in the midfield.
Liz Reifsnyder and Molly Brady each performed hat tricks for Cal. Sunne Smith and Danni Zuralow added two more goals in the winning effort.
Saint Mary's hosts the MPSF Championships on May 5-6. The Aggies will face first-year program Oregon in the opening-round game.
