Stanford Posts Record-Setting Win Over Aggies in MPLL Semifinal

STANFORD, Calif. --- Nina Pantano scored five goals and Megan Burker added four to lead 14th-ranked Stanford to a 19-3 win over UC Davis in one of two semifinal games of the Mountain Pacific Lacrosse League tournament at Maloney Field Saturday.

The Aggies, ranked second in Division II by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association, slip to 9-7 on the season. The Cardinal improves to 13-4 overall.

Senior attack wing Jaime Fitzpatrick accounted for all the UC Davis scoring, posting three goals in a 17:24 span during the first half of play. Sophomore defender Jackie Milhoan had one assist for the Aggies while goalkeeper Kristen Braasch posted 13 saves in net.

Sisters Claire and Julia Calzonetti each scored a pair of goals for Stanford, as did Kelsey Twist. The Cardinal outshot the Aggies, 44-15. The Stanford output of 19 goals also sets a UC Davis school record for goals allowed.

UC Davis will face third-seeded Denver University, which lost to UC Berkeley in the other league semifinal, in Sunday's third-place game at 11 a.m. Stanford will take on Cal in the title game at 1 p.m.

The Aggies also will await its fate in the four-team NCAA Division II Championships. The national committee will announce its pairings in an online broadcast at 6 p.m. Pacific Sunday. As of the April 21 region rankings, UC Davis stands at No. 3 in the South Region. Two teams from each of the North and South regions participate at nationals.
