DENVER, Colo. - Senior Kelly Albin tallied two goals and three assists lifting UC Davis from a halftime deficit to a 11-9 win over Denver University in the third-place game of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women's lacrosse tournament Saturday. Senior Jessie Donohoue and freshman Katie McMahon also posted hat tricks for the Aggies, who finish the year at 12-5.

Both teams broke loose early in the game as Donohoue converted a Leslie Kado assist just 32 seconds after the opening draw. The Pioneers' Kate Broderick then assisted on goals to Tara Bourdelaise and Steph Greenless in the first minute to take a 2-1 lead. Liz Dierdorff scored two more goals and Broderick fired in her first to help Denver build an 8-5 advantage at the halftime break.

Furthermore, senior midfielder Stacy Sugarman and sophomore defender Nicole Frantz each were signalled for red cards in the first half, leaving the Aggies without two key contributors for the remainder of the game.

However, UC Davis took control of the second half. Albin set up Donohoue on a goal in the 34th minute, then scored her own unassisted goal two minutes later, cutting the lead to one. Albin recorded her third assist of the game - this time to center Naomi Coffman - to tie the game at 8-8.

Denver's Patience Baldwin converted a free-position shot at 46:04 to give her a team a 9-8 lead, but the margin was short-lived. Freshman Alden Monger scored on a Tiffany Lee assist on the subsequent draw for the game's third equalizer.

Kado hit the game-winner at 50:46, finishing a free-position attempt. McMahon matched the feat with 2:57 remaining to seal the victory.

Goalkeeper Kristen Braasch defended the Aggie cage with 13 saves in net. The victory was also marked by good ball control, as UC Davis committed just four turnovers in the game and was successful on all eight clear attempts in the second half.

Baldwin, Greenlees, Bourdelaise and Dierdorff each scored two goals to lead the Pioneers. DU goalie Steph Schneider recorded 15 saves against 31 Aggie shots.

Albin, one of seven UC Davis seniors in their final games, finished the 2004 season with a school-record 29 assists.
