Saturday, Feb. 27 - SAINT MARY'S (W, 21-10)
TO RECAP: Four Aggies performed hat tricks in Saturday's 21-11 win over Saint Mary's... Senior Molly Lapolla, junior Gina Hoffmire and freshman Hannah Mirza each had four... Senior Britt Farquharson posted three goals with two assists... The total of 21 goals ranks T5th in school history, and the most ever against an MPSF opponent (see below)... UC Davis has shot 33-for-58 (.569) in its two games so far, compared to a .405 rate a year ago... Furthermore, the Aggies have successfully cleared the midfield at an .825 clip (33-for-40), compared to .662 in home games last year (note: not all statkeepers compile clear percentage).

UP NEXT: UC Davis (2-0, 2-0) takes to the road for three games in the Northeast, taking on Villanova (Mar. 4), Temple (Mar. 6) and Manhattan (Mar. 8)... The Aggies have fallen in relatively close games against each opponent in the past two years, including an 11-10 overtime heartbreaker at Villanova last year... UC Davis will return to MPSF play on Apr. 9 at Denver...
LOCAL INTEREST?: With half the UC Davis roster hailing from outside California, the program's cross-country trips often bring the action near the players' families... Among the Aggies on this week's travel squad, redshirt freshman Meghan Olmstead is nearest to the three host schools... Her hometown of North Brunswick, N.J. is roughly an hour from both Philadelphia (Villanova, Temple) and Riverdale, N.Y. (Manhattan).
Due to extreme weather, VILLANOVA (1-0) has struggled to get in games this year, having a Feb. 20 game vs. Iona postponed by a month and Sunday's matchup with MPSF member Fresno State pushed by a day... The Wildcats took down Bryant, 13-7, on Saturday (yet another rescheduled game)... Sophomore Justine Donodeo scored six goals with an assist in the victory... TEMPLE (1-1) split its season-opening week, falling to Rutgers by a 13-3 final on Wednesday, then picking up 12-8 win over Lafayette on Saturday... The Owls, who face third-ranked Penn before taking on UC Davis, have been led by senior midfielder Cheslea Rosiek with three goals and five assists... MANHATTAN (0-2) took a week off from competition after losses to Louisville (19-6) and Sacred Heart (10-9) during its first weekend... Sophomore Chrissy Gutenberger has scored six goals with two assists, including five scores in the loss to Sacred Heart on Feb. 21.
HEAD COACH ELAINE JONES:
"I think we've progressed in our shooting. We spend a lot of time on that, and we shot 21-for-31. We emphasize shot selection. Our juniors and seniors are being really good role models for the younger players, and it seems to be working. We're not forcing shots as much as we had in the past."
"Our transition game wasn't flawless. We got a little sloppy at points in the game, whether it was in transition or down on defense. It allowed Saint Mary's to get some easy goals. But overall, I'd say we had another really good team effort."
"Anytime you lose a close game or a game in overtime, you feel you should have won. I think we had our chances in that Villanova game. Perhaps due to our inexperience, we didn't win. We've learned a lot since those losses, so we're excited at a chance at redemption. These are three tough opponents. We need to continue to make good decisions on our offensive end, and continue to play at a high level. I think we played at a high level against Cal and it didn't come down against Saint Mary's."
