DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis senior attacker Elizabeth Datino was selected to the All-West/Midwest Region second team by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association, it was announced Tuesday. This is the second such honor for the Littleton, Colo. native, who also made the second team in 2012.
Datino stands as just the third Aggie to win IWCLA all-region honors, and remains the lone recipient in the Division I era. She also becomes the first to win the award more than once. Kelly Albin and Katie McMahon garnered All-South Region distinction in 2004, although Albin had earned IWLCA All-America status in two previous seasons.
Datino led UC Davis with 46 goals, 66 total points and a .568 shooting average in her final season. Through games of Sunday, she ranks 15th nationally in points per game (4.33), 18th in goals per game (3.0) and 49th in assists (1.33). She was one of only two players to appear in the MPSF top 10 in both goals and assists. Datino totaled 11 hat tricks in 2013, including one against all four of the Aggies' Top 20 opponents: No. 3 Florida (Feb. 22), No. 18 Navy (Mar. 27), No. 20 Denver (Apr. 7) and in the season-ending 15-14 overtime upset of No. 14 Stanford (Apr. 25).
The 2012 NCAA champion in points per game, Datino finished her career with 149 goals, 96 assists, 245 points, 53 ground balls, 19 draw controls and 24 caused turnovers. The assists total surpassed Christina Corsa's previous career record of 80, while her goals and points totals rank second in school history only to McMahon.
A total of 128 student-athletes won Division I All-Region honors this year. All are now eligible for voting toward the IWLCA All-America teams, which will be announced on May 17 and honored at a banquet in King of Prussia, Pa. on May 25.
