DAVIS, Calif. -
Senior defender Laura Sunday was the lone UC Davis student-athlete on the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation All-Academic team for women's lacrosse, it was announced by the conference office Tuesday. The Venetia, Pa. native earned the award for its maximum of three times in her Aggie career.
To be eligible for such honors, student-athletes must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or better, be at least a sophomore academically, have completed one full academic year at the institution prior to the season for which the award is presented, and have appeared in at least 50 percent of the season's competition in the respective sport.
Sunday, who holds a 3.38 grade-point average in international relations, also stands as a leader among her fellow student-athletes. Now completing her second term as an officer for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, she serves as the student representative on the Chancellor's Recruitment Advisory Committee charged with recommending candidates for the vacant athletics director position.
On the field, Sunday appeared in 15 games as a defender in 2012. She moved into a starting role midway through the season, and recorded totals of nine ground balls and five caused turnovers. UC Davis finished the season with a 6-10 overall record.
