DAVIS, Calif. -
New UC Davis women's lacrosse head coach Kate Henwood announced Amanda Kammes, a former Penn basketball captain and co-owner of Impact Lacrosse, as her top assistant coach beginning with the 2012-13 athletics year. Kammes will be involved with all aspects of the program.
Kammes' arrival reunites her with Henwood, as the two guided Garnet Valley High School to Pennsylvania state championships in 2011 and 2012. Kammes had served as Henwood's defensive coordinator, and handled the program's strength and conditioning program. During those two seasons, GVHS boasted four All-Americans and three U.S. Lacrosse All-Academic winners.
Prior to joining Henwood with the Jaguars, Kammes had served as an assistant basketball coach at both American University (2005-07) and Penn (2008-09). She had been a team captain and starting point guard for Penn, which captured the Ivy League championship in her junior season of 2003-04.
The new coaching staff has also announced the program's first-ever Junior Day on October 7 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. This event will welcome high school junior prospective student-athletes for an unofficial visit. The day includes a campus tour, a team meet-and-greet, a Q&A session with both coaches and players, plus presentations from the athletics academic services and compliance staff.
All interested prospects should RSVP by email (email@example.com) to Coach Kammes by September 17. Again, this event is reserved for high school juniors.
