DAVIS, Calif. - Road trips to Virginia and Detroit plus an expanded Mountain Pacific Sports Federation slate collectively highlight the 2014 UC Davis women's lacrosse schedule as announced by head coach Kate Henwood this week. The spring season begins with the Stanford Playday, a set of scrimmages on February 2.
UC Davis will face George Mason and Old Dominion in its season-opening road trip to the nation's 10th state, both first-time opponents and both of similar final RPI to the Aggies last year. The team will make a Spring Break trek to the Great Lakes State, taking on Detroit and new program Michigan on March 27 and 30.
The MPSF adds another team to its roster starting in 2014 with Colorado joining play. The Buffaloes, who announced women's lacrosse as the school's 17th intercollegiate sport in March of 2012, will visit Aggie Stadium on April 4. They continue the trend of conference expansion in recent years: Fresno State in 2010, San Diego State in 2012 and USC last year. Furthermore, Colorado represents the fifth MPSF lacrosse program to come from the Pac-12 Conference: USC, California, Stanford and Oregon.
The Aggies went 6-9 overall with a 3-5 conference record in 2013. They highlighted Coach Henwood's first season with a 15-14 overtime upset of 14th-ranked Stanford in the season finale.
