MEDICAL LAKE, Wash. - UC Davis posted a season-best time on Saturday morning against Gonzaga, but the Bulldogs were still able to beat the Aggies' in a women's rowing varsity eight dual matchup at Silver Lake on Saturday morning.

The Aggies, who had not raced since winning the petite final of the Cal Cup at the San Diego Crew Classic on April 4, crossed the finish of the 2,000-meter race in a time of 6 minutes, 58.24 seconds. The clocking beat UC Davis' previous best of 7:02.2 which it posted against Sacramento State in the Jean Runyon Cup last month.

However, the host Bulldogs were timed in 6:51.85 to record the win. The teams were facing off in dual action for the first time since 2002.

The teams also squared off in a very close second varsity eight action with Gonzaga's top two boats finishing in 7:02.41 and 7:05.16, respectively. The Aggies were edged for second place, finishing in 7:06.19.

UC Davis returns to action at the Western Independent Rowing Championships at Lake Natoma on May 1 and 2.
