CAMDEN, N.J. - UC Davis finished second in its preliminary heat on Saturday morning and later placed third in its semifinal as the Aggies' varsity eight earned a berth in the petite final of the event at the Knecht Cup, hosted by Villanova at Cooper River.

Conditions were not ideal with the fastest semifinal time just 7 mnutes, 27 seconds by George Washington over the 2,000-meter course.

UC Davis opened the day with a second-place showing in its prelim race, clocking a time of 8:03.0, by far its slowest of the season but very competitive against Saturday's field. The top three finishers in each heat plus three fastest boats advanced to the semifinals in the afternoon.

UC Davis will race at 9:50 a.m. (PDT) on Sunday in the petite final and will face Georgetown, Kansas, Boston College, Buffalo and Wisconsin's lightweight. A total of 27 schools are entered in the varsity eight competition.
